Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi bestselling young-adult fiction book ‘Children of blood and bone’ has becomes international bestseller landing #1 on New York times bestselling books list Adeyemi make sure to infuse her Nigerian heritage into the fast-paced fantasy novel.

Between the world building and the action scenes Tomi Adeyemi has for sure written a well thought out and vivid imagination piece of art. The world building of ‘Orisha’ makes the reader feel as though they are stepping out of their reality and more into a world of fantasy and fiction.
When it came to the character building, I loved how Tomi Adeyemi was able to make the Main Character Zelie. Zelie is the strong-minded protagonist in the novel, she is well thought-out and not that damsel in distress, she’s strong, gorgeous and a great-swordsman, not falling into a category of having a man come and save the day Zelie along with some of her friends along the journey make it their duty to bring magic back to the land of Orisha.
One, thing I did not find to fond when reading the book was the lack of information we had on the antagonist King Saran, who wanted to wipe of everything that that had to do with magic, I feel like Tomi Adeyemi could have added more of a stronger reason to make king Saran want to rid the land of magic. In the book, King saran family is killed by maji’s. In the book Maji’s are supernatural being that have powers, but I wish Tomi Adeyemi would have gave a more of a stronger reason as why the antagonist King Saran wanted massacre an entire race of beings.
Lastly, Another thing, I like about the novel was that it resonates with what’s taking place with police brutality for instance the how King Saran men would kill the poor cause they has will power to do so is something similar on how police kill monitories without facing repercussions such as Brionna Taylor, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice all killed by the hands of police that got away with it.
